When you say you want a simple e-commerce application, you are implicitly specifying thousands of decisions about user authentication, payment processing, inventory management, shipping calculations, tax handling, error recovery, accessibility, performance under load, and security against attacks. Most of these decisions are not obvious from a high-level description.
